Websites & SEO

How long does SEO take for a small business?

For a newer or smaller site, expect meaningful movement in roughly 60-90 days, with compounding results after that — and be suspicious of anyone promising faster. The timeline is set by things no vendor controls: how often engines recrawl your site, how much authority your domain has already earned, and how competitive your queries are. What a good team controls is the slope: fixing crawl and indexing plumbing in week one, shipping pages that answer real buyer questions, cleaning up listings so every platform agrees about you, and measuring against a baseline so you know — not hope — that it's working. We say this as a business doing it to ourselves: our own site's newest pages took weeks just to be recrawled. Anyone who tells you page one in a week is describing an ad buy or a lie.

The longer answer.

The most common failure mode isn't slow SEO — it's unmeasured SEO. Without a baseline (where you rank, what AI says about you, what your listings claim) there's no way to distinguish progress from noise, and no way to catch the vendor who reports "improvement" forever. Every engagement should start with numbers you can hold them to.

The second failure mode is scaling before proving. Publishing 400 templated pages before one of them demonstrably ranks just multiplies a bet that hasn't paid. Ship a measured batch, wait for the engines to respond, then scale what the data supports.
